Looking at these extraordinary flowers it is little wonder that in the early 1600’s an outbreak of ‘tulipmania’ - defined as an excessive passion for acquiring and growing tulips - swept through Holland. Thankfully you are no longer regarded as a ‘maniac’ for appreciating the splendour of these enormously popular flowers.
