Feltmaking is an ancient craft, dating back to Neolithic times. It was discovered long before knitting or weaving, making it the oldest textile fabric. Handmade felt has an entirely different quality to the machine-made felt found in craft shops. It is often thicker, more hardwearing and can be made in a variety of designs and colours. Felt is naturally insulating, water repellent and it does not fray, so sewing is not required unless you want to add detail to your projects.
